About 5,800 voters in southern Forsyth County, including residents near the Johns Creek border, will find a different polling place when they show up to vote on Nov. 3 because of construction at Sharon Springs Park Community Building.

The Forsyth County Board of Voter Registrations & Elections and the Board of Commissioners approved precinct line and polling place changes that take effect with the November 2026 elections, according to a Forsyth County announcement published Aug. 19.

The community building, which has hosted more than 160,000 ballots over the past 20 years, is closed while construction continues on the park and surrounding area.

What's changing

For advance voting, Johns Creek Baptist Church at 6910 McGinnis Ferry Road will replace Sharon Springs Park Community Building as the early voting site in the southern part of the county.

For Election Day, voters previously assigned to Sharon Springs Park Community Building have been reassigned to a new polling place and precinct. A portion of voters previously assigned to First Redeemer Church have also been moved to a different Election Day location.

The county did not name the specific new Election Day polling places in its announcement. Affected voters were mailed reassignment notifications the week of Aug. 10.

What's on the Nov. 3 ballot

The Nov. 3 election includes a 0.75% transportation sales tax (TSPLOST) referendum affecting Johns Creek and 14 other Fulton County cities. Voter registration for that election closes Oct. 5, and early in-person voting begins Oct. 13.

Why it matters under Georgia law

Under Georgia's SB 202, a provisional ballot cast at the wrong precinct before 5 p.m. on Election Day will not count. Voters who show up at the wrong location before 5 p.m. will be directed to their correct precinct but will have lost time in line.

That makes checking your assignment before Nov. 3 essential. Voters can verify their polling place at mvp.sos.ga.gov.

"We are so appreciative that County Administration adjusted their schedules to allow the use of Sharon Springs Park Community Building for the first two elections this year," Mandi Smith, Forsyth County's director of voter registrations and elections, said in the announcement. "And we look forward to returning to this location for voting once the construction is complete."

A note on geography

Sharon Springs Park sits in Forsyth County, not in the city of Johns Creek. But the park is in the southern end of the county, close to the Fulton County line, and serves voters who live in the Johns Creek area but reside in Forsyth County precincts. Johns Creek-area residents who vote in Fulton County precincts are not affected by this change.
