Autrey Mill Nature Preserve's 17th annual Spooky Mill Halloween festival takes over the Johns Creek preserve Sunday, Oct. 18, after Hurricane Isaias pushed the event from its original date.

The fundraiser splits into two sessions. A family-friendly block runs from 2 to 5 p.m. with an inflatable slide, carnival games, seasonal crafts and spooky stories geared toward younger children, according to the event listing on Patch.

After 5 p.m., the preserve shifts to scarier territory.

Visitors can step inside one of the preserve's historic buildings for a paranormal investigation led by the team that previously investigated the site. A haunted classroom and a haunted hike through the woods after dark round out the evening attractions. The event listing warns hikers to "beware" of creatures they might encounter along the trail.

Sources disagree on the end time. The preserve's website lists 7 p.m. in one place and 9 p.m. in another, while Appen Media reported a 7 p.m. end and the Patch listing shows 8 p.m. Families should confirm with the preserve before heading out.

Costumes are encouraged for all ages. Children under 16 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Tickets and pricing

Unlimited wristbands cost $25 for Autrey Mill members and $30 for non-members. Members should check their email for a promo code, per the event listing. Individual activity tickets will also be sold at the gate for $1 each. The preserve accepts credit, debit, Venmo and cash.

Concessions including popcorn, s'mores and soda will be available for purchase with tickets.

Anyone who bought wristbands before the reschedule can use them on the new date, according to the preserve's website. Spooky Mill is a fundraiser for the nonprofit preserve, which sits on 46 acres at 9770 Autrey Mill Road in Johns Creek.
