Johns Creek Police Chief Mark Mitchell will take questions from residents at a free public safety town hall on Sunday, Aug. 16, at 3 p.m. at Six Bridges Brewing JC, 11455 Lakefield Dr. #300.

The event comes on the heels of a major national distinction: U.S. News & World Report ranked Johns Creek the No. 1 safest place to live in the United States, based on the publication's crime subcategory within its Best Places to Live rankings. The city's official website confirms the designation was awarded in 2025.

State Rep. Dr. Michelle Au, who represents Georgia House District 50, is hosting the town hall and announced the event on X on Sunday, Aug. 9, calling it an opportunity for residents to discuss public safety directly with the chief. Au is a physician and Johns Creek resident.

The safety honor is one half of a rare double recognition from U.S. News. Johns Creek also ranks No. 5 nationally on the publication's 2026–2027 Best Places to Live list, the highest-ranked city in Georgia. As we reported July 24, the two lists are scored separately.

When the Best Places ranking was announced in May 2026, Mayor John Bradberry said the city was "proud that our community has once again been recognized for its excellence on a national level."

The town hall format is open Q&A. No specific agenda beyond public safety has been published, and no capacity limit was listed on the registration page.

Admission is free.

Chief Mitchell has been a visible presence in public discussions about the department's direction. He appeared before the City Council at a Nov. 3, 2025, work session to address questions about whether the police department was receiving sufficient funding. The department also published its 2024 Annual Report in May 2025, covering crime statistics, community programs and staffing highlights.

Johns Creek, a Fulton County city of about 78,400 residents, has a median household income of $167,051 and a median home value of $588,835, according to U.S. News data.
