Johns Creek pitcher Uma Pittman recorded her 100th strikeout of the season Monday, Oct. 5, as the Lady Gladiators beat Forsyth Central 10-1 on the road.
Pittman matched her work in the circle with a 3-for-3 night at the plate, according to the team's game recap. The 100-strikeout mark caps a season in which Pittman has led the pitching staff since opening day, when a Fulton County Schools preview identified her as the team leader in earned run average.
Isla Wells delivered the decisive hit. Her three-run home run broke the game open and gave Johns Creek a lead Forsyth Central could not close.
Wells has provided big swings all fall. In the Lady Gladiators' Sept. 15 win over Lanier, she went 2-for-3 with a two-run homer and three RBIs. That 6-4 victory was the program's 16th of the season, described at the time as the most wins in a single season in school history.
The Lady Gladiators have since blown past that mark.
Johns Creek improved to 19-5 after the Forsyth Central win, then followed with a 13-1 rout of Gainesville at home Tuesday, Oct. 6, to reach 20-5 on the season, according to MaxPreps. The team sits first in Class 6A Region 7 with a 7-2 region record.
Head coach Jim Ernst's squad has outscored opponents 216-89 across 25 games this fall. The Lady Gladiators are 12-1 at home and 7-2 away.
Pittman's strikeout total has climbed steadily down the stretch. She fanned nine Lanier hitters on Thursday, Oct. 1, in a game where she allowed six hits and two runs. Four days later she crossed the century mark against Forsyth Central, giving the Lady Gladiators a reliable arm heading into the postseason.
The regular season wraps up Thursday, Oct. 8, when Johns Creek hosts Milton at 6:30 p.m.
