Volunteers will plant thousands of daffodil bulbs at Cauley Creek Park on Saturday, Oct. 17, during Johns Creek Beautification’s annual Dig Day.

The event runs from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. near the pickleball courts at 7255 Bell Road. Organizers moved it from Oct. 10 because of Hurricane Isaias, according to Appen Media’s Oct. 12 report.

Johns Creek Beautification and the city are partnering on the planting to promote cancer awareness and add spring blooms along the park’s 5K trail. The Daffodils4Hope program honors survivors and remembers people affected by cancer.

Organizers hope the scale of the planting will mark a milestone, though they will not seek an official Guinness World Records title.

Zach Hahn of Johns Creek Beautification told Appen that pursuing recognition would have cost $15,000. He said he offered $5,000 of his own money, but Guinness declined.

“They gave a hard no,” Hahn said.

Published planting estimates differ: Appen reports about 20,000 bulbs, while the organizer’s website lists 23,000.

A growing community effort

In 2025, more than 100 volunteers planted 10,000 bulbs across seven locations, bringing the program’s citywide total at that time to 72,250 bulbs across 29 sites, according to Johns Creek Beautification.

Participating groups included the Northview and Lambert High School Beta Clubs, Young Men’s Service League, Ismaili Civic Group, Autrey Mill Middle School and Lowe’s.

A $10,000 donation from the Atlanta Retailers Association and Platinum Business Alliance helped support this year’s bulb purchase and planting. The check was presented July 25, according to Appen’s donation report.

Before you go

The organizer’s volunteer guidance recommends bringing gloves, knee pads and a trowel. It also asks volunteers younger than 18 attending without a parent or guardian to bring a signed parental consent waiver.

Because the program webpage still displays the original date and sign-in time, volunteers should confirm check-in instructions and other arrangements for the rescheduled session.
