The Johns Creek Gladiators volleyball team beat Buford 25-22, 25-12 on Thursday, Aug. 27, at Buford Arena.

Johns Creek controlled both sets, pulling away in the second after a competitive opener. The Gladiators won the first set by three points before dominating the second by 13.

The Gwinnett Daily Post reported that Buford's Emily Fernandez recorded five kills and Reagan Callender tallied eight digs in the loss. Individual statistics for Johns Creek players were not included in the roundup.

Buford split its Thursday matches, rebounding to beat Parkview 25-23, 26-24 later that evening. Olivia Hayden and Sophie Crawford each posted 10 kills in the Wolves' win over Parkview. Kami Oates and Nyla Page each contributed 11 assists.

The result capped a productive night for the Gladiators, who traveled to Gwinnett County and came home with a convincing two-set victory against a Buford squad that showed it could compete, needing extra points to close out the second set of its win over Parkview.

According to the Johns Creek Athletics schedule, the Gladiators return to action Tuesday, Sept. 1, at 6 p.m. against Milton High School in the JCHS Main Gym. Athletic Director Kirk Call's program then heads to Norcross High School on Thursday, Sept. 3, for back-to-back matches against Norcross at 5 p.m. and Lakeside at 6 p.m.

The biggest date on the near-term calendar: Saturday, Sept. 12, when Johns Creek hosts the Fulton County Championships at JCHS Main Gym. A start time has not been announced.
