Johns Creek High School named Nik DelFavero as its new swim coach, the athletics department under Athletic Director Kirk Call announced Wednesday, Sept. 16.

DelFavero swam four years at the NCAA Division I level, splitting time between Rice University and Seton Hall University. He also competed internationally with the Austrian National Team.

Off the pool deck, he works as a sports chiropractor and holds a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) credential. His professional background in biomechanics, injury prevention and recovery shapes how he coaches, according to the announcement.

The school said DelFavero's coaching resume spans age-group, youth and masters swimming. His emphasis is on stroke mechanics, measurable progression and training tailored to each swimmer's goals.

DelFavero and his family are part of the Johns Creek community. His daughters are members of the Gladiators swim program.

The announcement described his goal as building a competitive culture where experienced year-round swimmers feel challenged to represent their school, while newer swimmers get the coaching they need to improve. The school said he views high school swimming as a place for serious development paired with team pride and fun.

He takes over a program with deep recent success. The Gladiators' boys won the 2025 GHSA 5A state championship, their fifth straight title. In 2026, both the boys' and girls' teams finished second at the GHSA 5A State Championships held in late January and early February at Georgia Tech's McAuley Aquatic Center, according to a JCHS community email. That marked the boys' sixth straight podium finish and the girls' third straight.

Earlier in the 2025-26 season, the Gladiators captured the Fulton County Schools (FCS) Championship for the 10th consecutive year. That title was credited to Coach Smith and Coach Filipelli, who led the team at the time.

The announcement did not address the circumstances of the coaching change.

GHSA swimming and diving is a winter sport. The 2026-27 season will be DelFavero's first leading the Gladiators into competition, with the GHSA 5A State Championships scheduled for Jan. 30 through Feb. 6, 2027, in Atlanta.
