Johns Creek ranks fifth in the nation and first in Georgia on U.S. News & World Report's 2026-2027 Best Places to Live list, a slide from the No. 1 national spot the city held in the 2025-2026 cycle.

The rankings, released in May, evaluated more than 850 U.S. cities across four weighted categories: value (28%), quality of life (27%), desirability (24%) and job market (21%). Patch reported that 10 Georgia cities made the 250-city list, with Alpharetta placing 34th nationally and Roswell 44th.

Carmel, Indiana, claimed the top spot, followed by Fishers, Indiana; Flower Mound, Texas; and Ankeny, Iowa. Johns Creek rounded out the top five.

The methodology drew on data from Applied Geographic Solutions and federal agencies including the Bureau of Labor Statistics, Census Bureau, FBI, FEMA and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, according to CBS 12. For the first time in the ranking's history, two neighboring Indiana suburbs took the top two spots.

U.S. News listed Johns Creek's median household income at $167,051, median home value at $588,835 and unemployment rate at 2.86%. The city's median age is 40.2, and the average commute runs 27.78 minutes.

Erika Giovanetti, a consumer lending analyst at U.S. News, said in a May news release that affordability is increasingly shaping where Americans choose to settle. "Cost-of-living concerns resulted in many Americans putting what they can afford above their aspirations," Giovanetti said.

Mayor John Bradberry said in a May 21 statement on the city's website that the council remains committed to enhancing quality of life and adding value for residents.

The ranking lands alongside fresh economic development activity. Boehringer Ingelheim opened its new U.S. Animal Health headquarters in Johns Creek on Monday, Aug. 31, drawing Gov. Brian Kemp and Select Fulton economic development director Samir Abdullahi to the ribbon-cutting. The company cited access to talent in the region's life sciences corridor as a reason for choosing the city, according to a Boehringer Ingelheim press release.

The Johns Creek headquarters complements Boehringer's existing Georgia operations, which include research and manufacturing facilities in Athens and manufacturing in Gainesville.

Northview High School, located in Johns Creek, ranked eighth in Georgia and 318th nationally in U.S. News' separate 2026 Best High Schools rankings, according to the Augusta Chronicle. The school posted a 98% graduation rate, with 80% of students scoring proficient in reading.

The city also holds a separate No. 1 ranking as Georgia's best suburb from Niche.
