Johns Creek dog owners can bring their pups to Pup-A-Palooza, the city's free annual dog festival, at Newtown Park on Saturday, Sept. 19, from noon to 3 p.m.
The event features pet-related vendors, dog treats, a DJ and two contests: Best Dressed Dog and Best Dog Trick. The city promoted the festival on its official X account Thursday, Sept. 17, inviting residents to bring their dogs for an afternoon at the park.
Admission is free, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution's weekend guide.
Last year's Pup-A-Palooza drew about 350 people, according to a city Recreation and Parks Advisory Committee report presented in May. That report described the event as featuring a DJ, pet vendors and the two dog contests, all held at the Newtown Amphitheater area of the park.
The festival takes place at 3150 Old Alabama Road. Newtown Park is home to a fenced dog park with separate areas for small and large dogs, plus sprinklers and obstacles. The dog park is open daily from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.
The park's dog area earned a spot among the top 10 dog parks in the nation in a July 2025 USA Today readers' choice ranking, according to Patch. It beat out parks in California, Florida and Alabama.
Visitors to Newtown Park can also spot three life-size stainless steel dog sculptures along the pathway west of Pavilion 1A. The pieces (a Great Dane, a Golden Retriever and a mutt) were installed in April 2025 by artist Jim Collins, funded by Johns Creek Beautification board member Michèle Morel.
Pup-A-Palooza is organized by the city's Recreation and Parks Department, now led by Director Michael King, as we reported Sept. 17.
