Families with swimmers or divers at Johns Creek High School have a deadline to mark: the Gladiators Swim & Dive team will hold its 2026-27 season informational meeting Wednesday, Aug. 26, at 6:30 p.m. in the school cafeteria at 5575 State Bridge Rd.
The meeting is open to returning athletes, first-time competitors, and their parents. Coaches plan to cover tryout eligibility, practice and meet schedules, season costs, and team culture.
One requirement won't wait until tryout day. All athletes must complete medical clearance through Fulton County Schools' Rank One portal before they can try out. The process requires a parent account, a physician-signed physical, and several electronic forms including concussion awareness, sudden cardiac arrest awareness, emergency contact, and insurance verification documents, according to the district's athletics forms page.
Families who cannot attend the Aug. 26 meeting should email Coach Filipelli at [email protected] to be added to the tryout roster and have clearance verified.
The program enters the 2026-27 season on a streak. In a January 2026 community email, the school celebrated the swim and dive team's 10th consecutive Fulton County Schools championship. Both the boys and girls squads finished second at the GHSA 5A State Championships that winter, marking the boys' sixth straight podium finish and the girls' third.
The Gladiators will compete in a new classification beginning in October. Under the 2026-2028 GHSA region alignments, Johns Creek moves up to 6A, racing in Region 7 against Alpharetta, Milton, Roswell, Gainesville, Lanier, and Riverwood.
Head coach Jordan Smith and Coach Filipelli lead the program. The announcement was posted on the Johns Creek Athletics website on Aug. 3, the first day of the Fulton County Schools school year.
GHSA rules set the earliest practice date at Monday, Oct. 5, with the first meets allowed Monday, Oct. 19.
