Johns Creek families have two weeks to get ready. The first day of school for Fulton County Schools students is Monday, August 3, according to the May 2026 board bulletin, and the district is heading into the new year with a fresh round of recognition for school culture across its campuses.

Fulton County Schools announced Monday, July 20, that elementary, middle, and high schools across the district earned a Climate Five-Star Rating, the top score on Georgia's school climate scale. The district did not release a list naming which individual schools received the designation, so it is not yet confirmed whether Johns Creek High School, Chattahoochee High School, or Northview High School individually earned five-star scores.

All three schools are part of the Fulton County system.

First Day Fulton: Saturday, July 25

Before classes begin, families can stock up at First Day Fulton, the district's 10th annual back-to-school resource fair. The event runs Saturday, July 25, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Banneker High School and Centennial High School.

What the climate rating measures

The Georgia Department of Education's Climate Star Rating scores every school on a 1-to-5 scale, with five stars representing excellent climate. The rating draws on school climate surveys, student discipline data, and attendance records, according to the state education department. It is an informational diagnostic and does not affect a school's College and Career Ready Performance Index score.

The recognition fits a broader pattern in Fulton County. As of November 2025, 68% of FCS schools had earned Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports recognition, up from 16% three years earlier, according to the district's board bulletin. Teacher retention has climbed to 89%, up from 82% in 2023.

Context for Johns Creek schools

While the district has not confirmed individual five-star recipients, all three Johns Creek-area high schools have earned other recent academic distinctions. Johns Creek, Chattahoochee, and Northview all received College Board AP School Honor Roll recognition at the March 2026 board meeting. Northview earned the top platinum distinction, making Fulton County the only metro Atlanta district with schools at that level, according to the board bulletin.
