Johns Creek families have until Saturday, Aug. 1, to complete the Fulton County Library System's 2026 Summer Reading Challenge, and the Ocee Library is giving kids who finish a spot on its Wall of Readers.
The dinosaur-themed "Unearth a Story" program launched June 1 and is open to all ages. In a blog post published July 16, the library system said participants have been "setting reading and program attendance records," though no specific numbers were released.
At the Ocee Library, 5090 Abbotts Bridge Road, kids who complete the challenge can pick up prizes: a free book, a sticker, a tote bag available while supplies last, and an entry into a raffle for a stuffed T-rex. For every 25 kids who finish, the branch mascot Ocee the Ocelot "unearths" a dinosaur egg and a surprise, according to the library's summer reading page.
Participants log their books through the Beanstack app or at fultoncounty.beanstack.com/reader365. The program is produced in partnership with the Atlanta-Fulton Public Library Foundation.
New book delays
The library system also disclosed a supply disruption affecting new physical books. A vendor that previously supplied the system closed, a problem hitting libraries across the country. Bestsellers and replacement copies should begin arriving soon, according to the July 16 blog post.
The disruption has not slowed summer programming. The library system called the reading challenge's final stretch a "favorite time of the year in the library world."
