Attendance boundary changes involving eight north Fulton schools could take effect as early as August 2027, while any closures under the current review would occur no earlier than August 2028, according to a district response reported by North Atlanta Star.
The outlet attributed those dates to Fulton County Schools media relations manager Anne Hampson Boatwright in an Oct. 7 response. They describe the earliest possible implementation dates, rather than an approved schedule.
The district has not approved specific boundary changes, closures or consolidations.
Eight schools included in review
The Region C review covers Esther Jackson, Hembree Springs, Mimosa and Vickery Mill elementary schools, along with Autrey Mill, Elkins Pointe, Haynes Bridge and Holcomb Bridge middle schools.
Region C encompasses district schools north of the Chattahoochee River. Inclusion in the review does not establish that a campus will close.
According to the district’s redistricting materials, the process examines enrollment, building capacity and facility use. Community feedback will help shape recommendations.
Appen Media reported that enrollment at the four middle schools is projected to decrease from 3,141 students to 2,631 by the 2030–31 school year, a decline of 510.
More opportunities for public input
The first middle school forum was scheduled for Oct. 7 at Centennial High School. The next sessions are Nov. 11 and Dec. 15, both from 6 to 8 p.m. in the school’s gymnasium, 9310 Scott Road, Roswell.
Elementary school forums begin Tuesday, Oct. 13, followed by sessions Nov. 9 and Dec. 14. All run from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the Roswell High School gymnasium, 11595 King Road.
The district explainer schedules initial draft maps for November and revised proposals for December. The board is scheduled to receive the final map recommendation Jan. 12, 2027, with a vote planned for Feb. 25.
Some students may request to stay
Under the district’s transfer guidance, students reassigned during the spring semester or summer before fifth, eighth, 11th or 12th grade may request to remain at their current school through its final grade.
Families must arrange transportation, and students must meet attendance, academic and behavior requirements. The provision does not guarantee placement or continued attendance at a campus that closes.
