Families feeding into Northview, Chattahoochee, and Johns Creek high schools have less than a week to get backpacks packed and bus routes checked after Fulton County Schools wrapped its 10th annual First Day Fulton resource fair Saturday, July 25.

Thousands of students, families, staff, volunteers, sponsors, and community partners turned out across two sites — Benjamin Banneker High School and Centennial High School — for the free event, which ran from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., the district said in a July 27 social media post. Atlanta radio station V-103 was on-site at the Banneker location.

First Day Fulton offered free school supplies (while they lasted), health screenings for the required Form 3300, a district department expo, community vendors, and entertainment. FCS promoted the event as "the ultimate back-to-school kickoff" when it announced the 10th-anniversary edition on July 10.

What Johns Creek families need before Monday, August 3

The district launched its "Know Before You Go" resource page on Thursday, July 23, at fultonschools.org/backtoschool. The page covers new bus routes, school meal prices, student device protection plans, emergency contact updates, and digital safety tools.

Meal prices for 2026-27: breakfast is $1.70 for elementary students and $1.85 for middle and high schoolers; lunch runs $3.10 at the elementary level and $3.35 for middle and high school. Students who qualify for reduced-price meals eat both breakfast and lunch at no cost.

FCS is also urging families to verify bus assignments through the Here Comes the Bus app or the Infinite Campus Transportation portal before the first day.

85,000 students, 101 schools

Fulton County Schools projects 85,000 students across 101 schools for the 2026-27 year, according to the district's back-to-school page. Georgia's fourth-largest district.

The district's "95% to Thrive" attendance campaign asks students to attend school at least 95 percent of the time. "We want every family to start the school year smoothly and successfully," Superintendent Dr. Mike Looney told the Fulton Neighbor on July 24. "By placing key information in one location, we hope parents can spend less time searching for answers and more time helping their children have a great first day and a successful school year."

Board meeting and millage rate hearing ahead

The Fulton County Board of Education will hold a special called meeting and the first of at least two millage rate hearings on Thursday, July 30, at the FCS South Learning Center, 4025 Flat Shoals Road in Union City. The executive session begins at 5 p.m., with the called board meeting at 6 p.m.

Classes for all Fulton County Schools students, including those at Johns Creek-area schools, begin Monday, August 3.
