Johns Creek's Summer Concert Series brings a double bill of throwback rock to Newtown Park on Friday, Aug. 7, with gates opening at 6 p.m. and music starting at 7 p.m.
Guardians of the Jukebox, an Atlanta-area 1980s tribute act led by guitarist Rich Ward of Fozzy, formerly of Stuck Mojo, headlines the free show. The band pairs hits from Toto, Hall & Oates, Depeche Mode, Bon Jovi and Foreigner with a video backdrop of vintage music videos, movie clips and commercials. The North Atlanta Star named the Newtown Park lineup its "Best live music" pick for the entire North Atlanta region this weekend.
Opening the night is Flannel Nation, a five-piece, female-fronted 90s grunge and alternative tribute band also based in Atlanta. Lead vocalist Tayler Jaques and company cover Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Foo Fighters, Third Eye Blind and more.
Five food trucks will be on site: Smash Hit Burgers, Genki Noodles & Sushi, Tres Jardines, King of Pops and YOM. Adult beverages will also be sold.
The concert runs until 10 p.m. at 3150 Old Alabama Road.
Admission is free.
What to bring: Water, sunscreen and a light rain layer. Blankets and low lawn chairs work best for seating. The National Weather Service forecast for Friday calls for highs near 89–90 degrees with a 20–30% chance of afternoon thunderstorms. Attendees should check the city's event page or city social media before heading out in case of weather delays.
