Johns Creek is projected to receive $86.4 million for transportation improvements over five years if Fulton County voters outside Atlanta approve a sales tax renewal Nov. 3.

The referendum would continue the existing 0.75% Transportation Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax, known as TSPLOST. It would not increase the rate.

The proposed collection period runs from April 1, 2027, through March 31, 2032. County officials estimate the program would provide roughly $650 million for transportation projects across 14 participating cities.

Johns Creek would receive the fourth-largest allocation, behind South Fulton, Sandy Springs and Roswell, according to Fulton County’s funding announcement. The distribution uses 2024 Census population estimates, which put Johns Creek at 81,167 residents and 13.24% of the participating population.

What Johns Creek would fund

The city’s initial spending tier totals approximately $73.5 million, based on collections reaching 85% of the revenue forecast.

The official project list divides that amount among five categories:

  • Pedestrian, bicycle, streetscape and landscape improvements: $35.5 million
  • Maintenance and safety improvements: $19.1 million
  • Operations and safety: $10.9 million
  • Bridges: $4.3 million
  • Project management: $3.7 million

The list describes Johns Creek’s work in broad citywide categories without naming individual roads, bridges or sidewalks.

At 100% of forecast collections, the city’s allocation would rise to approximately $86.4 million. At 115%, it could reach $99.4 million. The estimates are not guaranteed.

Each participating city selected its own spending priorities and would manage its projects locally.

Renewal would continue existing tax

Voters initially authorized TSPLOST in 2016 and approved another five-year cycle in 2021. The current collection period ends March 31, 2027.

Although the ballot uses the word “additional,” the proposal would extend the existing transportation tax for another five years.

The Fulton County Commission approved the intergovernmental agreement without discussion Aug. 3, Rough Draft Atlanta reported. County and city leaders signed the agreement that day.

Across the participating cities, the largest proposed spending category is pedestrian, bicycle, streetscape and landscape work, at $227.2 million. Maintenance and safety improvements account for another $182.9 million, according to the county.
