Police arrested a fourth suspect in a deadly Buckhead parking-deck robbery Friday, Oct. 23, after a roughly three-hour SWAT standoff at a Johns Creek townhome.
Xavier Bryant, 26, faces charges of murder, armed robbery, aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, according to Fox 5 Atlanta.
Atlanta police served search and arrest warrants in the 9100 block of Nesbit Ferry Road with assistance from Johns Creek, Milton and Roswell officers and deputies from Forsyth and Cherokee counties.
Bryant barricaded himself inside the home and refused to come out, police told WSB-TV. More than 30 officers surrounded the townhouse, and residents in adjoining units were evacuated.
Officers broke a front window and deployed tear gas through it and upstairs windows, WSB-TV reported. Witnesses told the station Bryant entered the attic, broke into the adjoining unit’s attic and attempted to flee before officers arrested him.
Neighbor Colleen Walsh Berg told WSB-TV that armed officers stood along her fence while SWAT personnel took positions on her roof.
The charges stem from a Sept. 4 shooting at the Mezzo apartment building’s parking deck in Buckhead. Officers responding around 1:39 a.m. found a man with gunshot wounds who died at the scene. Another man was hospitalized with injuries that authorities said were not caused by gunfire, according to Fox 5.
The man killed was Jonquail Myers, 29, Atlanta News First reported, citing the Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office. Police said the shooting appeared to involve a targeted robbery.
Investigators arrested three other suspects shortly after the shooting. Following an alert about a vehicle sought in the investigation, Cobb County officers located it and pursued it. Brian Wingo, Charles Lewis and Ky-Mani Goodings were subsequently booked into the Fulton County Jail on murder and armed robbery charges, Fox 5 reported.
Authorities said Bryant’s arrest brought all four suspects sought in the case into custody as of Oct. 23. The charges remain allegations.
Johns Creek police described the operation as an isolated incident and said there was no ongoing threat to the public.
