Johns Creek-area residents in Georgia House District 25 can start casting ballots Tuesday, Oct. 13, in a race between incumbent Republican Todd Jones and Democratic challenger Elaine Padgett.
The district covers parts of north Fulton County and stretches into southeast Forsyth County, according to Appen Media's election preview. Residents can check whether they live in District 25 by looking up their sample ballot at mvp.sos.ga.gov/s.
Jones, a state representative who has held the seat since January 2017, is running on law enforcement funding and eliminating the state income tax. His campaign website describes him as fighting for conservative values and protecting Georgia's standing as a place to raise a family and do business.
Jones holds a bachelor's degree in business administration and a law degree from the University of Florida. He co-founded the Shiloh Point Elementary School Dad's Club in 2009 and was named co-volunteer of the year in 2010 by Forsyth County Schools.
Padgett, a nurse with 30 years of experience, has worked at Grady Memorial Hospital and other metro Atlanta hospitals. She also serves as a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) for children in foster care and volunteers as a board member and nurse at the Forsyth Community Clinic. She has lived in Forsyth County for more than 20 years, according to her campaign website.
On policy, Padgett supports a three-term limit for Georgia House members. She also wants to bar elected officials from holding financial stakes in companies that bid on or hold state government contracts.
