Democratic Rep. Michelle Au and Republican challenger Azure Duan will debate Thursday, Oct. 8, in Johns Creek, five days before early voting begins for the Nov. 3 general election.

The House District 50 debate runs from 7 to 8 p.m. at Yifan Restaurant & Event Center, 6000 Medlock Bridge Parkway, Suite F100. A World Journal event preview identifies Dawei Yang and Yawei Liu as the moderators.

A community announcement describes the event as a nonpartisan, community-organized debate. Admission is free, but advance registration is required.

An optional buffet dinner begins at 6 p.m. and costs $25 per person, payable at the venue. Attendees must RSVP whether or not they plan to eat. Registration is available through Yifan’s RSVP page.

Candidates bring different backgrounds

District 50 includes Johns Creek and a portion of Alpharetta, according to Au’s official legislative biography.

Au, an anesthesiologist with a master’s degree in public health from Columbia University, began serving in the Georgia General Assembly in 2021 as a state senator before moving to the House.

In a September campaign newsletter, Au highlighted health policy work, including legislation addressing surprise bills for ground ambulance transportation.

Duan’s campaign biography says she holds a Ph.D. in integrative medicine and founded Harmony Acupuncture & TCM. She lives in Johns Creek with her husband and two children.

Her campaign says she has served on the city’s Arts, Culture & Entertainment Committee since August 2022 and helped organize its annual Lunar New Year celebration.

Duan’s issues page lists property and income tax relief, lower insurance premiums, support for law enforcement and expanded school choice among her priorities.
